With the Grace of the Almighty, a humble beginning with 25 families in 1980 facilitated us to grow to 111 families and our newly built Church.

The Mar Thoma Church Staten Island is one of the first four parishes formed in New York area in 1980 under the order of the then Metropolitan (Dr. Alexander Mar Thoma).

Although the Staten Island Parish is smaller in comparison to other Parishes in this Diocese, the Diocese has benefited from years of stable, responsible, mature and effective leadership at a turbulent time in the Diocese’s history.

During the formative period of the First Mar Thoma Congregation in the US and during the formative period of the Diocese, representatives of the Staten Island Parish successfully buffered against the worst of the shocks.

On 1 May 2010, Rev. Baby John is appointed as the Vicar of the Mar Thoma Church Staten Island by the Holy Synod of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar
